Structure: Contractor receives significant savings on Residential Extension

Residential property, Prestwich

WARD Structure were appointed to undertake the structural design for a single storey extension on a residential property in Prestwich, and in the process were able to provide significant savings to the contractor.

Our Structural Engineers designed the steel supports, timber rafters and foundations on the project. They also completed masonry design calculations to justify the size of the masonry wall returns and avoid the requirement for a steel portal frame to the rear elevation, which provided the contractor with significant savings.

The foundations are now complete for a new build, 53-bed dementia care unit in Bury.

The steel erection and ground floor planks are scheduled for commencing this week.

Wyboston 81 bed Care Home

The new 81 bed care home in Wyboston is progressing well with our Ward Structure team on site.

The foundations were piled due to the granular nature of the ground and the high water table, which made excavation of traditional strip footings impossible.

The piling works and ground beams have now been complete with drainage installation underway before the ground floor planks are installed this week.

The main structure is load bearing masonry with some cantilever steelwork supports used to produce projecting bays at first and second floor.

Omega house, York

Ward Structure have been working on a two storey residential development, called Omega House, York.

The scheme retains the existing site boundary perimeter wall, which has been underpinned to allow excavation to form the ground floor slab.

The house is part masonry part timber frame. The busing has been designed with high sustainability credentials with walls design to achieve U values half the current building regulation requirements.

Basement included within residential home to maximise space

Ward Structural and Civil Engineering team are currently working on a scheme at a residential site in Wheldrake, York. Due to planning restrictions, the scheme has been designed to incorporate a basement, within the two-storey building, in order to maximise space.

Our team have provided structural engineering services including detailed design of the basement structure and superstructure. Ward also designed and detailed the drainage to the site including an attenuated surface water system.

The basement box has now been complete, with blockwork due to commence on Monday 20 October, with ground floor planks due the following week.
